RapidWeaver Stuff

RapidWeaver 3.6.1 . . .

So RapidWeaver 3.6.1 is here and I have downloaded it. *looks around* Am not too sure what is different.

Publishing your site to the internet couldn't be easier with RapidWeaver's built-in one click publishing. You can publish to .Mac, FTP, SFTP and even locally to your desktop. RapidWeaver keeps track of the changes you make to your site and only uploads modified pages, keeping publishing time to a minimum. We call this Smart Publishing!

That would be nice f'sure. I'll let you know.

Hmmmm- this post was sent for upload at 21:42 and finished at 22:26 so it would seem I still haven't got it right. Try again.

22:43 to 23:30 . . . . changed some settings. Try again.

23:33 to 00:17 . . . . . time to ask for help.

Back Up To Speed . . .

The slow uploading problem I have been suffering from for what seems like forever, has been solved with a simple un-ticking of an option in RapidWeaver. Seemingly having the *Show Post Count* switched on can make a difference between the upload time being 15 - 60 minutes and it crashing to an amazing 54 seconds. Now THAT is much more manageable methinks!

Am well chuffed with that.

You know that means I will be able to send snippets more often now . . . muhahahaha . . .

New Site, Renewed Love . . .

woiwoiwoi
After being given a heads up about a fantastic domain and hosting package deal I decided to buy a new domain name yesterday morning. It is something I have been thinking about for a while - not that I don't have enough already, of course, but . . .

Apart from a few glitches because I was expecting the thing to be turned on instantly - everything went very smoothly - after watching one of Nik's screencasts about base urls I was well sorted. Within twelve hours I had the majority of the new site built and within 24 hours I had it fully operational and my first sale through it. How's that then? (Am hoping that no one remembers that I never bothered to read my ftp instructions which held me back just a tad.)

I have to say that this has helped renew my love of RapidWeaver. For simple sites I don't think it can be beaten. My previous gripes have always revolved around the blog setup within it.

Macworld
This new site was built entirely with the Blocks plugin (except for the Contact page) which has to be one of my favourite plugins. The images were generated in the sister plugin Collage - although I used that in a standalone file just copying and pasting the new images in to the new file as and where they were needed.

This new enthusiasm has come at a good time. RapidWeaver has been nominated for a MacWorld award this year. I think they are going from strength to strength. If you have been using RapidWeaver at all - why not head over there to cast your own vote? That's me in the booth beside you.

Oh. And the new site? Here it is. Let me know what you think of it. I am mighty proud of it.

RapidWeaver Tips . . .

Picture 12
I am constantly amazed at how many people arrive at this site after googling something RapidWeaver-ish. Well, here is something substantial for y'all for a change!

My mate Nik has started doing screencasts to explain some common problems that he sees arising in the RapidWeaver forums from time to time. His latest one is about Site Path Settings - he says -

Site Path settings are a common problem in RapidWeaver, so I've put this little tutorial together with some common hosts' settings put in to show you what to do for Globat, MacDock and DreamHost.

If you go here you will see the other RapidWeaver Tips he has come up with so far including how to set up the Base URL correctly, how to use Google Analytics with RapidWeaver and also How To Hide The Contact Form after sending a message which has been bugging loads of people in the forums for ages now.

If you use Firefox and see the awful favicon he has put up just. to. annoy. me. then email him and tell him it is an awful photo and can he please put one up that his Mummy would approve of? Perhaps if he gets enough complaints about it then he will remove it!

THIS photo has been stolen from his site without any permission at all and I hope he doesn't mind . . . .

RapidWeaver Rapidly Going Off The Boil . . .

loverwwhite
I love RapidWeaver. Everyone knows I love RapidWeaver. If it hadn't have been for RapidWeaver I wouldn't be as geeky as I am now.

However, because of the way the program currently works it now takes fifteen minutes to upload even as little as one change in punctuation. I don't have time to wait fifteen minutes and I am seriously considering changing things at Chez AD. This will please some people and horrify some others. But just so my cards are on the table - I am now thinking about moving on from my beloved.

In the meantime I intend to keep RW open during the day and just upload once in the evening so I might have a couple of updates in a row to pester you with.

For Crying Out Loud . . .

Ok, I have finally snapped. Is anyone else having the same hassle with Haloscan comments that I am? The comments keep being thrown back in to my RSS feeds even though some of them are weeks old.

I get so excited when the feed says there are comments on MY site - but seriously, if I hear once more that budgies block hoovers I am going to flip. If I have heard about that fecking new dishwasher once I have heard about it around 17 times.

What is going on? Is it just me and mine?

*kicks Haloscan*

Carousel Excitement . . .

blocks_image_23_1
Isaiah over at Your Head has been at it again.

I don't know how he churns out all these fantastic plugins but he has another one about to join the attractions at the fairground! Carousel sounds like it ought to be fun to use and if it is in any way as useful as his Blocks then I shall be a happy girl.

If you love RapidWeaver then head over to his site and take a peek at the new stuff - including the new forum!

IT'S HERE!

At Lunch

After a lot of anxious waiting, loads of comments and one very long lunch, RapidWeaver 3.5 is finally here! YAY!

I have backed up 3.2, downloaded the new U versions of plugins from YourHead including paying for Accordion with the 35% discount you get from them today in celebration of the 3.5 release, downloaded 3.5, played with it, looked at some of the new themes - decided to stick with the one I have, pressed some buttons, looked at some code, wondered what some other buttons do and am now finally ready to go back to work!

I DO love my RapidWeaver you know. . . .

Goodies . . .

Picture 4

I DO kinda love my RapidWeaver. There is a new version coming out and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Looks like it might be soon as there are little teasers coming in the form of a sexual strip tease from Dan's Blog. Who would have thought you could get so turned on by a little brown paper?

Picture 3

Just to keep the excitement at fever-pitch
Isaiah over at Your Head has been beavering away on a new plugin to add to his stable of thoroughbreds Blocks, Columns, and my favourite Collage. Personally I think that Collage is worth getting RapidWeaver for all on it's own. My The Links, The Usage and The Spotted are all just excuses to use the Collage plugin. If I could keep on adding pages upon pages to this blog they would all be Collage pages!

Picture 6

Many times I have seen great software falter because of a few glitches, a few questions gone unanswered resulting in more than a few unhappy Users. Happily this is never going to happen to
Your Head as Isaiah is a very active member at the RapidWeaver forums where he dishes out help on all matters but in particular making sure his software is easy to understand. I can't understand how anyone would have a RapidWeaver site without having at least one page with Collage!

Picture 2

I am not sure what I am going to be doing with the
new plugin. . . but I'd sure love to be playing with it soon.

Threadless . . .

I have just added a couple of links on my Links page to some Threadless t-shirts that I like. Go and have a look. I love that Collage plug in and the icon thingies so much I might do up a page just for the Threadless links alone! I'd love to do a page of just the ones I own. . .

I have mastered the Collage plugin ok but the Blocks and Columns still elude me a little although there have been plenty of updates to the Blocks that I haven't actually played with yet. Will put that on my list of things to do!
